History is Messy

Andrew Carnegie funded 2400 public libraries, 1700 in the US. His only real requirement was that the community agree to fund the operation of the library with tax dollars. Today they represent enormous public capital. Carnegie was as ruthless in his business as, well, anyone. And yet here we are with all of this public good over 100 years later. History is indeed messy.
